It all started in the summer of 2012 when A friend and I decided to lose some weight cycling. One thing lead to another and before you knew it we were no longer cycling 15km but rater 50km. We decided to continue training so we can get 100km under our belt. By November we completed 3 metric centuries. Through the off season on social media we managed to round up a hand full of new cyclists that wanted to join us the following season so they too can achieve a metric century. The group grew to 45 cyclists on line and when May came around we had a dozen cyclists riding 2 to 3 times a week training for our first MCCG group ride in June. Fourteen cyclists ventured out and all accomplished their 100km ride. In the years that followed we grew in size and eventually affiliated with ESR, a local cycling club with proper training, leadership and liability insurance. We registered our MCCG logo as well as our official blue and yellow kits. We grew so big that we had to divide our rides in several categories depending on personal skill levels. Eventually we were getting more cyclists riding with MCCG than ESR. The unfortunate thing is we lost touch of who we were, so in 2020 we decided to take a hiatus for a year to regroup. Turns out 2020 wasn't much of a year for any group rides.
In 2021 we will return and will be encouraging cyclists to reach their goal of 100km by posting training schedules on Facebook at " Metric Century Cycling Group". We encourage you join a cycling club if you wish to participate in group rides.
We will post all community and charity rides as well as social gatherings such as a scavenger hunt, pizza night, summer BBQ, taco Tuesday meet and a year end party. Click on the Facebook link below and request to join our social group.
